Fair Game is the title of the American film of 2010 directed by Doug Liman, who makes light on the CIA-gate through the true story of Cia-agent Valerie Plame.

The CIA-gate or "Plame affair", from the agent's name precisely, is a political scandal that hit the U.S. in 2003 concerning the charge made against some government officials, which would have revealed confidential informations about the agent in question and divulged his employment at the CIA with the mandate to conduct secret investigations on the proliferation of mass destruction’ weapons.

The film deals with the case through the lives of Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) and by that of her husband too, the Senator Joseph C. Wilson (Sean Penn), also engaged in foreign policy issues. The lives of both, in fact, is literally turned upside down when they are in conflict with the decision of the Government of the United States to invade Iraq, as a result of the presumed presence mass destruction’ weapons.
Both are aware of the fact that there is no evidence of this and decide to expose themselves in order to prevent the manipulation of information by the Bush administration to justify a military attack against Iraq. In 2003, a few months since the war began, Senator Wilson criticized the government action in an editorial in the New York Times and subsequently his wife's undercover identity is revealed and published on all newspapers. Senator Wilson accused the White House of "political revenge" and the federal investigation that followed led to arrest of Vice President Cheney's Chief of staff, Lewis Libby.

It has arrived in American theaters in limited release on November 5th, 2010 edited by Summit Entertainment, while it was released in Italian theaters October 22 of the same year by the Eagle Pictures, and overall the film has grossed more than $ 15 million, winning an award for Freedom of Expression at the National Board of Review Awards 2010.

In addition, the film has received positive and negative acknowledgments from criticism. "The Hollywood Reporter” described it as "one of the best spy movie of all time and capable of demonstrating how the things operate in real life" while the “New York Times” tends to underline that " the film is pleasant during the first hour, but after it sink into a nonsense melodrama".

Of course, a consideration grows spontaneously.
The beauty of this film doesn’t reside in the presence of unexpected events or otherwise, in fact they are totally absent, but in the wealth of content, which are absolutely "difficult" for some people who occupy high degree positions in the ranks of the U.S. government.

But it is well known, when talking about the unvarnished truth, this is always close to someone.

Fair Game – Caccia alla Spia è il titolo del film statunitense del 2010, diretto da Doug Liman, che fa luce sul CIA-gate attraverso la vera storia dell’agente sotto copertura Valerie Plame.

Il CIA-gate o “Plame affair”, dal nome dell’agente per l’appunto, è uno scandalo politico che ha colpito gli Stati Uniti nel 2003 e che riguarda l’accusa mossa contro alcuni funzionari governativi, i quali avrebbero svelato informazioni riservate sull’agente in questione e divulgato il suo impiego presso la CIA con l’incarico di condurre indagini segrete sulla proliferazione delle armi di distruzione di massa.

Il film tratta il caso attraverso la vita di Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts) e anche attraverso quella del marito, il senatore Joseph C. Wilson (Sean Penn), anch’esso impegnato in affari e questioni di politica estera. La vita di entrambi, infatti, viene letteralmente stravolta quando questi ultimi si trovano in conflitto con la decisione del Governo degli Stati Uniti di invadere l’Iraq, solo e soltanto a causa della presunta presenza sul territorio iracheno di armi di distruzione di massa. I due sono a conoscenza del fatto che non vi sia alcuna prova di ciò e decidono di esporsi in modo da ostacolare la manipolazione di informazioni da parte del Governo Bush per giustificare l’attacco militare nei confronti dell’Iraq.

Così, nel 2003, a pochi mesi dall’inizio della guerra il senatore Wilson critica l’azione governativa in un editoriale del New York Times ed in seguito a tale avvenimento l’identità sotto copertura della moglie non solo viene rivelata, ma spiattellata su tutti i giornali. Il senatore Wilson accusò la Casa Bianca di “vendetta politica” e l’inchiesta federale che ne conseguì portò all’arresto del Capo dello staff del vicepresidente Cheney, Lewis Libby.

E’ arrivato nelle sale americane in versione limitata il 05 Novembre del 2010 a cura della Summit Entertainment, mentre nelle sale italiane è uscito il 22 Ottobre dello stesso anno a cura della Eagle Pictures e complessivamente la pellicola ha incassato oltre i 15 milioni di dollari, aggiudicandosi un premio per la liberta di espressione al National Board of Review Awards 2010.

Inoltre il film, ha ricevuto riconoscimenti positivi e negativi da parte della Critica.                                        

Il “The Hollywood Reporter” lo definisce come “uno dei migliori film di spionaggio di sempre e capace di dimostrare come funzionano le cose nella vita reale” mentre il "New York Times" tende a sottolineare come “il film sia piacevole durante la prima ora, per poi sprofondare in un melodramma senza senso”.

Ovviamente, una considerazione nasce spontanea.
La bellezza di tale film non risiede di certo nella presenza di colpi di scena o quant’altro, che anzi risultano del tutto assenti, bensì nella ricchezza dei contenuti, i quali, c’è da dirlo, sono assolutamente “scomodi” per alcuni personaggi che ricoprono ruoli di alto grado tra le file del governo americano.       

Ma si sa, quando si parla della verità nuda e cruda, questa sta sempre stretta a qualcuno.
