"And on this ephemeral paper stage I claim again and I continue the offense and plead my language Transgression as a moral transgression, from immorality gathering the strength of being and the turgid manhood of saying through writing ..."

Unsettling. Unsettling. To hell with good lessons about how to write a canonical well done introduction. To hell with patterns, clichés, and any number of panegyrics. After all, is it or not the best book in the world? I can assure you that the reading reflects the (ironic) “presumption" of the title. On the other hand, irony is the main feature of any single page, the engine of the plot that makes more lumps than it dissolves. With awareness the author stands as a storyteller, but after a first reading, one wonders whether he has lived his distance, his stories singing exactly as in that famous "February of geniuses", if his stage made of paper did actually resist, and for how long. Esenin’s words to introduce a child that, unaware of who he might become after growing up, we love since the beginning. And with him we learn the puzzled gaze of post-multimedia age, to take off the low-profile clothes of too comfortable – and not very elegant - a generation in order to wear, at the age of only ten years old, the cozy cotton of an English tennis player of the Sixties who it is hard to believe that a boy in his very childhood can have heard of. Yet. Yet reality is under the attentive reader’s hungry eyes, but he sometimes does not look at it. Surrounded by human stupidity, we believe ourselves to be stupid rather than different. Will this be the sense of a self-nomination that has the flavor of provocation?
Thus the stages of our author’s life – of the one we’re shown, at least – defined by slogans that evoke laughter, but which would be better to think about. And they blush with melancholy during farewells ploughed through by thoughts of a man of Italian origin - will be a chance? - in the departures, in his life and his death, and that of others. His cynicism, then, becomes even larger in the simulated departure only to fade into excuses given to those who feel crossed, surrounded by, close to death. Perhaps without even meaning to. So why “the world’s best book” as denounce of the world's ugliest society, of smallness, recalling with sadness odorsflavorscolors drawn from a past Christmas that will never come back? But is society really changing or is it just the awareness of maturity that enables us to judge, with sharp first and pungent then awareness the eironeía of transgression - or the illusion of omnipotence that characterizes the adolescence, and the thrill at all costs, and the desire for freedom, and feeling lucky because we could not be better than we are? Maybe in ten years more awareness will be added to this awareness, more irony to irony, more mistakes to mistakes. Perhaps the best book in the world will be replaced by its sequel, this is what we wish for ourselves and for the most beautiful author in the world. Waiting.

L'attesa.
