The famous French venue L’ANTIPODE in Rennes had taken the decision to help the delivery of the Monster, and from months its arrival was announced for this special evening. L’ ENFANCE ROUGE had taken the place for a week. Just one month after the releasing of their latest album « Trapani-Halq al Waady », their wild Pan-Occidental Electricity with Oriental Harmonies blending was about to be finally seen on a European stage. Nobody before succeed so honestly in melting these genres -and please don't talk about a Kashmir of Zeppelinesque memories. L' ENFANCE ROUGE went much further, beyond the Western fortress.

L' ENFANCE ROUGE The Red Childhood. A Tunisian-French-Italian band, based in between Berlin and Borj El Khadra. More than 1800 concerts from 1995, from Vilnius to Tbilissi as from Paris to Siracusa. Avant-rock without boundaries, neither musical nor geographical. The European press talks about them as crossroads between introversion and acceleration, between cerebralism and wildness or barbarity. Unpredictables.
TRAPANI ~ HALQ AL WAADY, recorded in between Tunis (TN) and Lecce (I), is the newest album recorded by L'ENFANCE ROUGE. A certain pan-occidental electricity melted with splendorous oriental grandness. An inventive synergy in-between larsens, feed-backs and these famous arabic quarter-tones. The arrangements are signed by Mohamed Abid, unchallenged 'ud master from the "Orchestre National de la Rachidia", composer and teacher at the "Institut Supérieur de Musique" of Tunis.
If the whole occident is to be closed again on itself, its musicians are getting internationalists. By specifying that on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea there was of course no will to carry out a fashionable and well-formatted world-music, nor oriental tourism or intellectual colonialism.
Trapani-Halq al Waady : a direct and short from-North-to-South line. Trapani is the last European port, Halq al Waady is the first Ifrikian harbour.

L’ANTIPODE de Rennes, France, avait pris la décision d’aider à la genèse du Monstre, et depuis des mois son arrivée était annoncée pour ce soir-là. ~ Une certaine électricité pan-occidentale fondue avec les fastes de la musique orientale ~ L’ ENFANCE ROUGE avait investi les lieux depuis une semaine. Juste un mois après la publication de leur dernier album « Trapani-Halq al Waady », le fameux mélange de leur électricité pan-occidentale avec les harmonies orientales allait prendre corps sur une scène européenne. Personne auparavant n’avais réussi aussi honnêtement le mélange des genres, et ne parlons surtout pas d’un Kashmir de mémoire Zeppelinesque. L’ ENFANCE ROUGE était allée bien plus loin, outre la citadelle européenne …

L' ENFANCE ROUGE: un combo franco-italien basé entre Berlin et Borj El Khadra. Plus de 1800 concerts depuis 1995, de Vilnius à Tbilissi, de Swinoujscie à Séville comme de Paris à Syracuse ; de festivals, théâtres et clubs en camps de réfugiés slovènes et croates durant l’avant-avant-avant-dernière guerre. …On est voyagé, bercé d’instruments exotiques, quand –BANG !- on se retrouve secoué comme rarement dans une furie électrique digne des bons jours d’Einstürzende Neubauten... Le disque fut enregistré entre Tunisie et Italie, et tend une passerelle entre Occident et Orient. Reste que l’on n’imagine pas dorsale nord-sud plus coupante de celle-ci. Et qui remonte bien plus haut , et bien plus bas. D’un côté, le faste oriental et velouté que conduit un maître de l’oud, de l’autre une pure virtuosité du chaos, résolument déchaînée, entre dégringolade de larsens et ruptures sismiques… Magic-F
