ADDITIONAL PROGRAMME
MINIMÚSICA
Children’s activity minimúsica will host for the sixth year running musical performances, in which the bands adapt their repertoire for a family audience. This initiative from Sones, that has generated great media interest in its previous editions, aims to integrate children into the festival’s musical offer.
minimúsica aims to contribute to the musical education of children, by bringing them closer to live modern music, arguing that childhood is not linked to a concrete type of music or to “children’s music”, but that on the contrary it is a stage in life when exposure to different sounds is vital. It is an interactive performance in which the children learn to classify different instruments and learn to distinguish the qualities of the sound (pitch, speed, intensity, duration and timbre) and to give their opinions as listeners.
Every year minimúsica has theme-based activities. In the last few years some of the themes have been “the Universe”, “Food” and “Means of Transport”. There will be a free children’s play-centre with qualified monitors.
Since the festival decided to entrust the custody of its children’s audience, the little ones of the festival have had the opportunity to see over 60 bands, like Herman Dune, Mujeres, Chris Brokaw, Dirty Projectors, ZA!, Manos de Topo, Coconot, Fred i Son, Tarántula, Le Pianc amongst many, many others.

RAY-BAN UNPLUGGED
A different way of living this musical event for the audience, and a good opportunity for the bands to present their music acoustically in front of a small audience. During the three days in the Parc del Fòrum, some of the big names from the line up will perform, do interviews and greet their fans.
In the three years of its existente, the space Ray-Ban Unplugged has received artists like Phoenix, Avi Buffalo, The Charlatans, Black Lips, Male Bonding, The Wave Pictures, Ganglians, Crocodriles, The Antlers, Mujeres, Jeremy Jay, Thelematicos, Sian Alice Group, Comanechi or Extraperlo.

RECORD FAIR
San Miguel Primavera Sound will continue having a space for national and international independent labels to display their products to the public in Fòrum.
Since the 2002 edition, record labels, music press, related companies and collaborating entities have come together at the festival. Most of the record labels are represented, by having artists in the line-up. The Hells, Mazoni, Remate, Meu, Coconot, Gentle Music Men, It’s Not Not, The Charades, Clint, Le Jonathan Reilly, The Queen Machine and Stay are some of the bands that have performed until now in this context.

FLATSTOCK
One of the novelties of this edition is the arrival of Flatstock, a touring show of concert posters by artists that will be the biggest exhibition of this type to visit Europe.
This event is will be extremely interesting for the festival’s public, not only because of the quality of the designers and the variety of their work on show but because it will be possible to purchase their work on the spot. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy an encounter between music and the most underground of plastic art form and the festival is the ideal setting for the diffusion of both of these art forms. Years ago, the association between music and the plastic arts was limited to record covers whilst now the association is that between live music and art, something that is closely linked to the decline of the record industry.
Flatstock will be on the Parc del Fòrum site during the days of the festival and will be located next to the record fair devoted to the work of 30 artists and from the 15th May until the 3rd June -coinciding with the end of the festival- there will be a free exhibition in Virreina Centre de la Imatge where a selection of 50 works chosen by Flatstock as well as some posters by renown Catalan artists will be on show. The exhibition will form part of the Primavera a la Ciutat activities.
The history of the American Poster Institute, a non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting the art form of music posters, started in 2002 by a small group of poster artists and supporters who visited the famous web www.GigPosters. com. This collective has grown and now comprises hundreds of artists and followers around the world.
The first API Flatstock show took place in San Francisco in 2002 and it was a resounding success and from then, this series of exhibitions of concert posters by the most famous contemporary artists, went on to become part of the SXSW Music Conference one year later. Since then, this initiative has become an intrinsic part of music festivals like Bumbershoot in Seattle. In 2006, Flatstock continued its development participating in various festivals like Pitchfork in Chicago until it landed in Europe, more specifically at the Reeperbahn festival in Hamburg, where it celebrated its 32nd edition in 2011. Now it will come to Spain with San Miguel Primavera Sound.
In the words of Nels “Jagmo” Jacobson, artist and member of API: “Over the last 35 years, concert posters have become increasingly sought after and collectible. Some posters -even some that were originally distributed for free- sell today for thousands of dollars. Many factors may govern what a poster is worth -factors such as the date it was created, the poster artist who designed it, the performer or performers advertised, the venue, the number of posters printed, whether the poster was offset printed or screen printed, whether the poster has been featured in a book or magazine article, and the originality or skill evident in the design. In many cases concert posters have proven to be not only visually compelling cultural artifacts but wise financial investments. In the end, however, the real value of any concert poster is how much personal enjoyment the owner receives from it- the extent to which the poster reminds him or her of a favorite performer, a memorable performance or a cherished venue, the extent to which it enriches and illuminates his or her visual universe, or the powerful way the poster expresses something he or she wants to say.”

PRIMAVERA RADIO BY SCANNER FM
The universe of Primavera acquires radio dimension thanks to a new music channel sponsored by Scanner fm that plays the artists that will visit San Miguel Primavera Sound 2011 and those that performed in previous editions of Primavera Sound and Primavera Club. 24 hours per day non-stop with contents in three languages: monographics, interviews, opinions of musicians and critics, specialized broadcasts, radio formula, reviews of past editions, as well as useful information about the festival. Primavera Radio can be listened to on Internet at www.primaverasound.com and www.scannerfm.com.

WFMU RADIO
The prestigious North American radio will once again be at the San Miguel Primavera Sound to broadcast some of the performances of this edition live. WFMU is the most important independent music station in the world, not only for its audience but also for its attitude and varied programme.

PRIMAVERA A LA CIUTAT
One of our main challenges is to find new ways of bringing music closer to all audiences and what better way to do it than to introduce our event right into the heart of Barcelona.
Primavera a la Ciutat was conceived to spread the spirit of Primavera to other spaces and to flood Barcelona with live music during the festival. It started timidly with a handful of concerts programmed in different public spaces, such as a park or an underground station and the success of its previous editions has consolidated this initiative, which will considerably increase its scope this year.
In fact, the most significant novelty of San Miguel Primavera Sound 2012 is the expansion of Primavera a la Ciutat with a new concept open to all the people of Barcelona. It is a free and large-scale event that will take place in the Plaza del Arco del Triunfo of Barcelona for two days, coinciding with the inauguration and closing days of the festival, the 30th May and 2nd June.
The programme will include several national and international artists who will perform in this emblematic place, amongst them will be the composer and multi-instrumentalist Yann Tiersen, the Californian, resident in Berlin, Jeremy Jay, the British band Saint Etienne, who will present their first studio album in seven years, and The Wedding Present who will play their record “seamonsters” integrally, and more names still to be confirmed.
As well as the central act in the Arco del Triunfo, Primavera a la Ciutat will offer other activities, like Primavera al Parc, Primavera als Clubs and Primavera a Viva Veu.
Primavera al Parc’s objective is to use the city’s green spaces for musical performances and to offer a cultural event for all the family with a programme of free concerts taking place during the daytime in parallel with the main event.
Also, the people who go to the festival as well as the general public of Barcelona can whet their appetite during the days leading up to the main event in the Parc del Fòrum with the presentation showcases where independent labels will introduce national and international bands in various venues of the city. Access to all the concerts of Primavera als Clubs are subject to the capacity of each venue and are free for those who have the San Miguel Primavera Sound 2012 full festival ticket.
For the third consecutive year, the organisation of the festival will join forces with A Viva Veu to programme a cycle of acoustic concerts with no amplification or microphones whatsoever, the trademark of this young Catalan promotion company.

PRIMAVERAPRO
The third edition of PrimaveraPro, a meeting aimed at professionals in the music industry, will take place in parallel to the celebration of the festival. Its main objective is to channel the synergies that arise between professionals from different areas of the sector such as record companies, booking and management agencies, promoters, distributors and communication agencies, fairs, festivals, specialised press and public and private institutions which promote culture and export of music.
PrimaveraPro started in 2010 as a professional platform to elaborate new social and economic development strategies for the production, edition, diffusion and programming of the live music scene.
For its third edition, the headquarters of daytime PrimaveraPro will move to Hotel Zero (official PrimaveraPro hotel), with a programme of conferences, workshops and receptions that will start on Wednesday 30th May and will last until Friday 1st June.
It is located opposite the Parc del Fòrum site, where the main events of the San Miguel Primavera Sound festival take place. This means that the two parts of PrimaveraPro (DayPro and NightPro) will be only minutes away from each other, a very positive factor for those participating in the meeting.
On the Parc de Fòrum site, the NightPro area will open its doors at the same time as the festival as a stress-free meeting point for professionals, where they can comment on the day’s activities and showcases in DayPro as well as arrange new meetings and make new contacts.
PrimaveraPro will also have something to focus on the adidas Originals stage, a stage for concerts by newcomer artists that will enable them to meet record companies, programmers and other entities from the music sector.
