Since it was renovated in 2004 in correspondence with a new direction in its events programme, each year Galleria Il Ponte has devoted exhibitions and monographs to a set of Italian sculptors born – albeit some abroad – between 1936 and 1941. Seven years on, the gallery has decided to present an overall view of the work that it has done in order to highlight and take a further look at its distinguishing traits.

In the exhibition what strikes home straight away is without doubt the unique style of each artist’s work. However, while the methods of expression may be totally personal, one can see an intrinsic strength. The wealth and depth of these sculptors’ thinking is reflected by the absolute quality of shape as it comes into being.

I think that this concise but interesting look at the panorama of Italian sculpture from the second half of the 1960s to date should make us reflect on the importance that the “tradition” of our sculpture had and still has in the ambit of international contemporary art.

La ristrutturazione della galleria Il Ponte, avvenuta nel 2004, ha coinciso con un nuovo corso nella programmazione; così annualmente sono state dedicate mostre e monografie a un nucleo di scultori nati fra il 1936 e il 1941 in Italia, o che qui hanno trovato un proprio contesto. A distanza di sette anni ci è sembrato interessante presentare una visione complessiva del lavoro svolto, così da evidenziarne e approfondirne le caratteristiche.

Quello che risulta immediatamente all'interno della mostra è sicuramente l'unicità rappresentata dall'operare di ognuno. All'interno di metodologie espressive assolutamente diverse, in cui si attuano la ricchezza e la profondità di una personale concezione della scultura, è presente una costante qualità formale, che deriva dal classico rigore della migliore scultura italiana.

Questo sintetico panorama di artisti che hanno operato dalla seconda metà degli anni sessanta ad oggi, vuol far riflettere sull'importanza che la “tradizione classica” della nostra scultura ha avuto e ha nell'ambito dell'arte contemporanea internazionale.
