THEME:
There are some subjects and themes that are seldom talked about in Swedish comics. Same in Swedish culture as a whole, which makes it harder to deal with these subjects. All the same, these are subjects that, in one way or another, touch us all in our daily lives.
WAR
If you haven't been in a war situation yourself, chances are you know someone who has. Or one of you neighbors that you meet in the elevator has. Or at least you've seen in on TV. Depending on our experiences, we may have differing views on the concept of war, but these different views seldom meet. There's a tendency in our society to only talk about what's nice and harmless. And no matter how exciting it looks in the movies, war is neither nice nor harmless. All the same it is something that we need to talk about.
SEX
Sex is antother subject surrounded by a certain lack of communication, even though it is always present. On film, in advertising, magazines and in our daily human relations.
AltCom 2010
will focus on these two subjects, in exhibitions, panels, invited guests and so on. Simply because we think that they need to be talked about, and comics as an art form is all about communication.

AltCom 2010
First comics festival for grown-ups in Malmö, the Comics City!
In November of 2010, the Swedish Comics Association will be arranging a comics festival for grown-ups and small press publishers of comics, with a bookfair, exhibitions, events and international guests. The theme for 2010 is SEX & WAR and we are looking forward to a comics experience for anyone who is interested in what's inventive and cool on the Swedish and international small press comics scene. The main festival weekend takes place November 12-14, but we start one week earlier, November 5-7 with a small animated film festival in cooperation with Folkets Bio Malmö.
AltCom 2010 brings the grown-up comics culture to the people of Malmö and the Öresund region, presenting comics from publishers, artist studios and self-publishing comics creators.
