Berlin > Cluj > Istanbul
3 residencies + 3 site specific exhibitions + 3 different cities
An ongoing negotiation of changing existential parameters related to the complex urban European socio-cultural configuration

SEME is an independent international project designed to reconfigure and reshape independent galleries and art-spaces in Berlin, Cluj, Istanbul into micro-residencies for artists. The focus is the artists’ physical inhabitation of the space, site specific art work, and the changing movements of their existence in relation to a city’s multilayered and deconstructed urban networks.
The artists, leaving the galleries etherodox living spaces, move toward the cities to trace the dynamics that design the function of their identity within the complexity of the urban context. The artist’s physical production in situ, site specific performances and installation, articulates the changing configuration of their role in relation to the indoor and outdoor syntaxix space. Reflecting the fluidity of the socio-economics and cultural parameters within the hosting cities.
A new map of the cities, represented by the works produced, is installed in the exhibit spaces. A storage of new signs: seeds left in the cities creative hub, independent art spaces, in order to produce new portraits of changing urban identities. Seeds as the cities new fragile utopias.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCY@ 91mQ // 4/10th JUNE_ SEME | BERLIN 2010:

EMILIANO MONACO (1975, Rome, lives and works between Reykjavík and Rome). Film history teacher, artist and filmmaker.

Emiliano Monaco’s video production examines the semantic platform of the city’s linguistic sintax. Video registration that activates, isolating single fragments in urban scenarios, a process of the investigation in urban reality. A subtle research of the thin functioning of the city, the invisible and secret everyday life of urban reality, which combines itself within the metalinguistic analysis of media video. Cinema infact, represents the opposing side where the process of investigation of urban places relates itself to. The cinematic language is then processed through a delicate analysis of analitical deconstruction which offers a renewed perception of space.

EMANUELA DE NOTARIIS (1977, Termoli, Italy, lives and works in Rome). Artist, curator, art historian

The production of Emanuela De Notariis uses different media. Painting, performance, video and drawing which investigate iconic material, taken from pop culture, trough the outline of the black sign. Analysis, processed in an organic unity, which moving from the postmodern iconic imagery narrartes the intimite hidden space of personal memory. Tracing an analysis with strength and irony of a changing identity facing the existential truths of life.

SEME 2010_2011

ARTISTI IN RESIDENZA @ 91mQ // 4/10 GIUGNO_ SEME | BERLINO 2010

EMANUELA DE NOTARIIS (1977, Termoli, vive e lavora a Roma). Artista, storica dell’arte e curatrice indipendente.
